THE CONCEPT
Each of the two tunnels of the St. Pauli Elbtunnel extends over a length of 430 meters. For the multimedia concerts on May 25 and 26, 2019, 144 musicians* will be distributed 6 meters apart in each of the two tubes – the St. Pauli Elbtunnel will become an 860-meter-long musically active surface. In order to synchronize the instrumentalists and singers over such a long distance, tablet-based scores are used, which are individually controlled in real time by a server computer. Each performer receives an independent score voice on the tablet using specially developed software. For minimal latency, a network system connects the 144 tablets to the main server.
Each concert is expected to attract 350 concertgoers, who will be able to move freely in and between the two tubes of the Old Elbe Tunnel and thus enjoy a highly individual concert experience.
