Developing software was always central to my artistic and pedagogical efforts and in a way they were one and the same, since my artistic endeavors often required to get to the bottom of things in terms of formalization and abstraction. This led me to develop tools of general value such as Quintet.net, Macaque or MaxScore (which I am co-developing with New York composer and guitarist Nick Didkovsky). I also worked over the years on a modular Max patch called EffectsMachine which became obsolete when Ableton and Cycling ’74 released Max for Live. The Max patch called very special guest which had been part of every Max release since 2000, initially came out of a project I conducted with my students at the Münster music school and received its graphical user interface during a workshop I conducted at the Tbilisi music conservatory in Georgia in 1999.
