Since 1991, I have been teaching at various universities and colleges. First as an graduate student instructor at UC Berkeley, then as docent for theory and ear training at the Münster branch of the Detmold Hochschule für Musik (now part of the Münster University). In 2002, I became professor for multimedia composition at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik with a small teaching load in traditional theory and ear training. In 2004 I founded the master’s program in multimedia composition, incidentally the first master’s program at a German music school. In 2010 I served as visiting professor at Northeastern University and have over the years taught numerous seminars and workshops all around the world.
As a member of the Hochschule I was continuously involved in collaborative projects such as MUTOR (with UC Berkeley and Northeastern University Boston), Bipolar (with the Hungarian Computer Music Foundation), CO-ME-DI-A (a European multi-annual cooperation project within the framework of Culture 2007) and most recently CoPeCo (an international master’s program in contemporary performance and composition setup between Tallinn, Stockholm, Lyon and Hamburg).
